Terms and Conditions

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodations are simple and basic with two or three beds per room and shared bathroom facilities. You will stay either in our Centre, Estia Amariou, or in the homes of local families. Guests are responsible for keeping their room clean and tidy. Sheets and towels are provided and laundry facilities are available.

Fresh food is locally sourced and wherever possible organic. We use many vegetables from our garden which guests are welcome to visit. Wine and drinks are not included with the meals. Tea and coffee are provided. Each day, two guests are asked to help our cook to prepare meals and clear up.

Please let us know if you have any allergies, i.e. animals, feathers, food etc or health needs or special accommodation requirements. There is a box provided for this on the online booking form.

 

Insurance

PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE TRAVEL AND PERSONAL/HEALTH INSURANCE.

It is a condition of booking that you accept responsibility for your insurance cover. Friends of Amari is a not-for-profit association and does not accept any liability for any costs incurred due to: cancellations, acts of God, health problems, accidents, losses and specified risks, etc.

 

Payment

The cost includes tuition, accommodation, meals, excursions and guest membership fees. We will confirm your booking after receiving your non-refundable deposit.

Please send the balance of your payment 5 weeks before the course begins.

The deposit will be retained for cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the start of the week. The full fee is retained if cancellation is made within 14 days of start of the course.

Travel To and From Crete

As soon as the course is confirmed, please make your travel arrangements. We are happy to advise on your travel plans. From the UK, Easyjet operates a direct flight to Chania & Heraklio.  There are many travel suggestions on our website. Please also look at our FAQ page.

 

Membership of Friends of Amari

All participants must become Guest Members of the Friends of Amari, and must fill in the Guest member Application Form before the workshop begins. The Guest Membership fee is included in the workshop price.

Declaration

I have read and accept the conditions of booking. I will send my deposit. I take responsibility for all my insurance cover and travel arrangements.

I am willing to commit myself to the work and structure of the week and contribute to community life.

Privacy Policy

Friends of Amari Privacy Policy

Friends of Amari is an association, a not-for-profit organisation, ratified by the Greek Courts of Law.

This Privacy Policy together with the Cookies Policy sets out the basis on which we collect, hold and process personal information (‘Personal Data’).

Friends of Amari is committed to protecting the privacy and the human dignity of all our web and facilities users (including members, learners, tutors, staff and contractors).  As a company processing your personal data, we are regulated by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This page is intended to keep you informed about what we do with the personal data we collect, hold and process. ‘Personal data’, for the purposes of the GDPR, means any information from which you can be identified; it includes things like your name, date of birth, e-mail address, home address, billing address, telephone number and IP address.

While we will endeavour to tell you if we make significant changes to this Policy, we reserve the right to change our Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. We therefore recommend that you check this Privacy Notice regularly to understand how we use your information.

At Friends of Amari, we’re committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This policy explains when and why we collect personal information, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure. How do we collect information from you?


We obtain information about you when you:
* Complete a booking form to attend one of our events
* Enquire about one of our events via email or through our webform
* Subscribe to our newsletter or emailing list via our website or on a paper form at one of our events

 

What type of information is collected from you?

 

The personal information we collect might include your name, telephone number, email address, job title, organisation, relevant medical / psychological conditions, dietary requirements, event attended or enquired about, and your next of kin or emergency contact’s name and telephone number.  If you make a purchase from us, your card information is not held by us, as we do not accept payment by card, only by bank transfer or paypal.
 


Transaction Data may include details about payments between us and other details of purchases made by you.

How is your information used?


We may use your information to:
Process a booking that you have made and send you further information about the event
Complete a risk assessment and ensure that your medical / psychological conditions and dietary requirements are taken into account
Contact your next of kin or emergency contact in the unlikely event that there is a medical / psychological need for doing so
Send you communications that you have requested and that may be of interest to you - including Friends of Amari news and information about our events
Process a course and event bookings through our Docourses event booking system.

Who has access to your information?


We will not sell or rent your information to third parties.

We will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
We may pass your information to our third party service providers, agent subcontractors and other associated organisations for the purposes of completing tasks and providing services to you on our behalf. We work with Mailchimp for processing mailings. However, when we use third party service providers, we disclose only the personal information that is necessary to deliver the service. Please be reassured that we will not release your information to third parties beyond the Friends of Amari network for them to use for their own direct marketing purposes, unless you have requested us to do so, or we are required to do so by law, for example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime.

We may transfer your personal information to a third party as part of a sale of some or all of our business and assets to any third party or as part of any business restructuring or reorganisation, or if we’re under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation or to enforce or apply our terms of use or to protect the rights, property or safety of our supporters and customers. However, we will take steps with the aim of ensuring that your privacy rights continue to be protected.

 

Your choices


You have a choice about whether or not you wish to receive information from us. If you do not want to receive direct marketing communications from us then you can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by clicking on the relevant link at the bottom of our newsletters or by contacting us directly.

If you are not happy with any aspect of how we collect and use your data, please let us know so we can try and resolve it for you. Should this not be resolved, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Ofce (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection issues (www.ico.org.uk).

 

How you can access and update your information?


The accuracy of your information is important to us. We’re working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information that we hold about you. In the meantime, if you change email address, or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date, please email us at stella@friends-of-amari.org

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information Friends of Amari holds about you. We may charge £10 to cover the administrative costs incurred in providing that information.

 

Security precautions in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of your information


We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know such data. They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

However, we cannot absolutely guarantee the security of your personal data. We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

Non-sensitive details (your email address etc.) are transmitted normally over the Internet, and this can never be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

 

Profiling


We may analyse your personal information to create a profile of your interests and preferences so that we can contact you with information relevant to you. We may make use of additional information about you when it is available from external sources to help us do this effectively. We may also use your personal information to detect and reduce fraud and credit risk.
 

Use of 'cookies'


Like many other websites, the Friends of Amari website uses cookies. 'Cookies' are small pieces of information sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognise you when you visit. They collect statistical data about your browsing actions and patterns and do not identify you as an individual. We use cookies to analyse our web traffic. 

It is possible to switch off cookies by setting your browser preferences. Turning cookies off may result in a loss of functionality when using our website.

Our website may contain links to other websites run by other organisations. This privacy policy applies only to our website‚ so we encourage you to read the privacy statements on the other websites you visit. 16 or Under


We are concerned to protect the privacy of children aged 16 or under. If you are aged 16 or under‚ please get your parent / guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide us with personal information. Most of our activities are for adults only.
 

Transferring your information outside of Europe


As part of the services offered to you through this website, the information which you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside the European Union (“EU”). By way of example, this may happen if any of our servers are from time to time located in a country outside of the EU. These countries may not have similar data protection laws to the UK. By submitting your personal data, you’re agreeing to this transfer, storing or processing. If we transfer your information outside of the EU in this way, we will take steps to ensure that appropriate security measures are taken with the aim of ensuring that your privacy rights continue to be protected as outlined in this policy.
 


If you use our services while you are outside the EU, your information may be transferred outside the EU in order to provide you with those services.
